Online sales at the department store giant Johnlewis.com broke a new record last week, growing by £500,000 more than the previous weekly sales record in the week to 15 December 2006. The company predicts that today's revenue will be it's largest online sales in it's history.

Popular items includes furnishing accessories, home electronics, Christmas decorations and toys. Biscuit the Dog, a life size electronic retriever puppy, has been one of the top sellers at johnlewis.com.
Sales at the John Lewis stores were also up 20% last week, compared to the previous week as shoppers took advantage at the 2.5% reduction in VAT. While sales at John Lewis were down 6.7% last week compared to last year, the performance represents an improvement of around 13% seen during most of November.
