Experts report that Monday, December 8 will be the busiest online trading day in the UK. More than 2,000,000 internet purchases are expected to take place today, with the hour between 1pm and 2pm the peak time for trading.

Figures from electronic retail industry body IMRG suggest that 77% of people plan to do at least half their shopping online - up from 56% last year.

They predict overall online spending in the run up to Christmas will top £13bn. James Roper, IMRG head, said: "It was widely assumed that the fall in VAT, from 17.5% to 15%, would create a considerable shopping surge.
"But it just didn’t happen. Many of the smart e-retailers had already passed on the lower rate as soon as it was announced." See related article VAT cut fails to improve UK online sales
